Around 955,000 Syrians currently live in Germany. It is unlikely that a large part of them will return to their old homeland at short notice. This doesn’t just have to do with security problems.
The number of Syrian refugees who returned from Germany after the fall of Bashar al-Assads is slowly increasing. Overall, however, it is still relatively low. As the German Press Agency learned from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, 1,867 people with funding from the federal government to Syria had traveled by the end of August. By the end of May, only 804 refugees with the country of origin of Syria had used this support.

However, there are also funding for returning to Syria via state programs. In addition, there are voluntary trips from people who do not use government funding.
In Lebanon and Turkey, the pressure on the refugees grows
Since the fall of the long -term power holder Assad on December 8, refugees have returned, especially from neighboring countries: from Turkey, Lebanon, from Jordan and Iraq. Families in particular often do difficult with this decision, reports the board member of the aid organization World Vision Germany, Janine Lietmeyer. She visited Syria in August and says that the relative normality in the city center of the capital Damascus is in strong contrast to the major problems in other parts of the country, which made it difficult to gain a foothold in her hometown.
Last year, according to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, 83,150 had previously been naturalized in Syrian citizens in Germany. Corresponding data has not yet been available for this year.
At the same time, Syrians continue to come to Germany to apply for asylum. 17,650 people from Syria applied to the Federal Office of Migration and Refugees (BAMF) between the beginning of January and the end of August.
