US President Donald Trump has to follow the judgment of an appellate court Pay $ 83 million to a columnist. He had publicly disparaged the woman for years.
Legal defeat for US President Donald Trump: A New York Court of Appeal confirmed a million dollar punishment against the right-wing populist on Monday for defamation of an author. The president has to pay a good $ 83 million (around 70 million euros) to the journalist E. Jean Carroll. He had publicly disparaged the columnist of the US edition of the magazine “Elle” for years.
The US Court of Appeal of the Second District said on the grounds that the high compensation for Carroll was “reasonable in view of the extraordinary and outrageous facts of this case”. It dismissed Trump’s appeal against the judgment of January 2024. The jury had convicted Trump in a civil proceedings. When the new judge’s decision became known, the President took part in an event in the Bible Museum in Washington and did not react for the time being.
The 81-year-old Carroll had accused Trump, two years younger during his first term in 2019, sexually abused her in 1996. He attacked her in a changing room in the New York luxury department store Bergdorf Bergdorf Goodman.
Donald Trump called E. Jean Carroll a “crazy”
The right -wing populist then publicly insulted Carroll as “crazy” and threw her to lie. He also tried to make her information unbelievable that she was not his type. In the defamation process, he repeated his allegations, but the jury did not believe him. Carroll also won a second trial against Trump.
Today’s president is repeatedly the victim of a politically motivated “witch hunt”, behind which the democratic party and its predecessor Joe Biden are said to be. However, his numerous judicial problems did not harm the real estate entrepreneur: Trump was the first convicted offender to the White House in January of this year.
Trump explains immunity legally
In May 2024, he was guilty of the Porno actress Stormy Daniels in the New York hedge -and -head affair in all 34 charges. However, his re -election last November prevented him from being held responsible. In his office, Trump enjoys far -reaching immunity. He uses this to be legally against political opponents, law firms, media and other institutions.
