The AfD in the Bundestag establishes agreement on the question of a return to conscription. It demands an end to the suspension and structures for the replacement service.
The AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag now calls for years of party conflicts to return to conscription. A corresponding application had been accepted without votes against, it was said after a faction meeting in Berlin.
The parliamentary group now brings an application to the Bundestag with the aim of withdrawing the suspension of compulsory military service in peace in 2011 “and restoring the legislative status before suspension of compulsory military service”.
The Bundeswehr has not been able to cover its personnel requirements by volunteers since the suspension of conscription, the application stated that the German Press Agency has. A significant increase in the armed forces in the event of a crisis or the existential threat to a war is “not guaranteed”.
“Repaying conscripts are used exclusively for national defense. The right to the refusal of the military service with the weapon for reasons of conscience remains without restrictions, the necessary structures for the replacement service are set up,” says the application decided by the parliamentary group.
There had been conflicts in the AfD in recent years – also against the background of the war in Ukraine.
