The international media look differently at the Israeli attack in Qatar. They agree in it: the war in Gaza is not ended.
“La Vanguardia“, Spain:”Israel and Russia have finally blown up all the bridges that could lead to an armistice or a peace agreement in Gaza and Ukraine in their own way. Donald Trump may also hope to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. But the reality is that both conflicts are much further away from a peaceful solution today than at the time when the Republican US President moved into the White House. “
“Echo24”, Czech Republic: “The bosses of the terrorist organization Hamas thought for a long time that they were untouchable. While they ordered a wide variety of attacks, including the massacre on October 7th, they enjoyed a life in wealth themselves. They didn’t even have to hide. Everyone knew where they were in Doha. Because Qatar was home to a large American military base, there was no conviction that the Americans were not attacking within the Emirats In order not to endanger the mutual relationships.
“The Telegraph”, Great Britain: “After the Israeli attack on high-ranking Hamas leaders who met in the Qatarian capital Doha, the prospect of a peace agreement to end the Gaza conflict seems to be removed. (…)
Israel has never deviated from the assessment that his security is only guaranteed after Hamas has been completely destroyed. And this view may not be wrong. The pogrom of October 7 was only the youngest and most hideous attack by terrorists on Israeli civilians. The attack at a bus stop in Jerusalem early this week shows that Hamas does not intend to change its course. A permanent peace in the Middle East is in the interest of everyone. However, it is not possible as long as Hamas continues to strive for the destruction of Israel and murdered civilians. “
“Neue Zürcher Zeitung”, Switzerland: “There is no question that the leaders of Hamas in the Qatarian exile are a legitimate goal. They are also responsible for the massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023 as well as for the catastrophic situation of the Palestinians in the war -sacrificed Gaza strip. In their delusion they made an absurd conditions and contributed significantly to the fact that this devastating war has not ended. Human life does not matter for them (…)
Netanyahu has been preaching since the beginning of the war that Hamas had to be destroyed as a military and political organization. Against this background, the attack has a certain logic – but it will not end the war. Hamas will now be all the less willing to put down its weapons or leave the Israeli hostages released. (…) “
“La Stampa”, Italy: “With the largest US base in the Middle East (…), Qatar (…) was calm and relaxed in a tower of ivory and steel in the middle of the golf, while rockets flew across the country without ever hit it. (…) Yesterday Doha was now attacked by the Israelis, and not to appear.
However, there is a deeper meaning behind the explicit message. The end of immunity means the end of the ambiguity. (…) With the unshakable support of the Trump government, “King Bibi” (Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) can now do what he couldn’t do in the past. Annect other parts of areas that extend security zones in Lebanon and Syria, a factual shift in borders, combat its enemies under the very stretchy concept of terrorism “all over the world”. Either here or there, the message seems to be. “
“Wall Street Journal”, USA: “A grotesque video of October 7, 2023 was not recorded in Israel, but in Qatar. The top leaders of Hamas filmed themselves how they celebrated the massacre in their office in Doha and thanked God. On Tuesday, Israel bombed many of these chief Hamas leaders when they gathered for another meeting in Doha.
Many will try to distinguish between the “political” and “military” leaders of Hamas, but both are terrorists. The fact that they operate in suits from luxury hotels does not change the moral evaluation. (…) The attack alone will probably not lead to Hamas, but he underlines that Israel does not intend to leave Hamas. As after the massacre at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, it will bring all perpetrators of the 7th October to the route. “
“The attack in Doha not only seems to end these negotiations, but also outraged Qatar”
“Sydney Morning Herald”, Australia: “Israel has put his luck to the destruction of Hamas several times in his campaign. This time it could have gone too far. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu started a shameless attack on the sovereign territory of an important US ally: Qatar that has housed the political leadership of Hamas with broad approval of all involved since 2012.
Such negotiations are currently of crucial importance: 48 hostages have been held on October 7, 2023 since the Hamas attack on Israel – some alive, others dead. And Israel seems to prepare a soil offensive against the city of Gaza. But Netanyahu’s attacks were aimed at the people with whom he should actually negotiate. (…) The attack in Doha not only seems to end these negotiations, but also outraged Qatar, which is now considering to completely withdraw from the peace process. “
“De Telegraaf”, Netherlands: “Israel had been in sight to lead the Hamas leadership in Qatar for almost two years. On Tuesday, it decided to do the withdrawal-knowing that a diplomatic solution for Gaza has moved far away. (…) The relatives of the hostages are now afraid that the death sentence for their loved ones has fallen. An agreement.
