Greetings to the “best buddy” and friendly emails: The relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is doomed to the British ambassador in the USA – only days before the Trump visit in London.
Almost a week before US President Donald Trump’s state visit, Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Strandmer recalled his ambassador in Washington, Peter Mandelson. According to the Foreign Ministry, new evidence proves that the “relationship” of the ambassador to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was significantly narrower than was known when it was appointed.
“In particular, Peter Mandelson’s claim that Jeffrey Epstein’s first conviction was wrong and must be challenged is a new information,” wrote the Ministry in London with regard to Mandelson’s emails. Mandelson is said to have written the financier, who died in prison in 2019, shortly before he started in prison that he “kept” a lot “from him.
In the affair about Epstein, which once moved in the highest circles and ran a abuse ring, the role of US President Trump, who vehemently contests, has vehemently contested.
Explosive birthday letters to Epstein
On Monday, the Democrats released an album with birthday greetings to Epstein, which was said to have been created in 2003. A letter with ambiguous allusions should come from Trump, which the US government denies.
Mandelson, on the other hand, had confirmed the authenticity of a letter written by him on Tuesday and confirmed in one in “Sun” interview that he had ever had contact with Epstein. In the letter he described Epstein as the “best buddy”.
The friendship between Lord Mandelson and Epstein was known, the news agency PA wrote. However, the new mails published by the “Sun” and Bloomberg showed that the relationship had existed even after Epstein’s crimes became known. Mandelson was appointed British ambassador in the United States at the end of 2024.
Another setback for Strander
The focus on the Epstein scandal is likely to throw a long shadow on Trump’s state visit in the coming week. This is another violent setback for Prime Minister Starmer. Just a few days ago, his vice heading for Angela Rayner had resigned due to a tax that was paid too minor.
Nickname “Prince of Darkness”
Peter Mandelson, who was sitting in the Oberhaus before his appointment, is considered a Labor heavyweight. He stumbled across affairs several times, but made a comeback every time.
He held various cabinet posts among the former prime ministers Tony Blair (1997 to 2007) and Gordon Brown (2007 to 2010). Between 2004 and 2008 he served as the Great Britain’s EU Commissioner in Brussels.
He had previously acquired the call as a broken communication strategist of the Labor party because he seemed to have been washed with all water. It was therefore also mockingly referred to as the “Prince of Darkness” or “Dark Lord”.
