Chancellor Merz has described the penetration of Russian drones into the NATO airspace as a “serious end to peace in all of Europe”. Now the government is intensifying its protest.
In response to the violations of Polish airspace by Russian drones, the Federal Foreign Office ordered the Russian ambassador. The acting of Russian President Vladimir Putin was “dangerous” and “unacceptable”, the Ministry said on platform X on the grounds. “The #Nato is firmly together to defend our alliance and our security.”
Ordering an ambassador is a clear form of diplomatic protest. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) had already stated on Wednesday that he did not consider the violation of the Polish airspace to be an accident. He sees it “a very serious end to peace in all of Europe”. Merz also spoke of a “new quality of attacks that we see from Russia”.
In response, the Federal Government increased the Bundeswehr’s participation in the protection of the NATO East flank. For the monitoring of airspace over Poland, four instead of two Eurofighter fight jets are initially available in Rostock Laage.
France also hires ambassador
France also orders the Russian ambassador in Paris after the penetration of Russian drones into Polish airspace. He will be told that you will not be intimidated, said Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on France Inter. In addition, Russia must stop testing NATO and its allies.
In response to the incident, France will also send three Rafale fighting jets to protect Polish airspace and the NATO-East flank. Personnel and ammunition should also be sent for reinforcement, the Ministry of Defense said.
