Does Ukraine come to rest and is peace with Russia possible? Wolodymyr Selenskyj sees little chance. Russia wants Ukraine entirely, says the Kiev head of government.
Wolodymyr Selenskyj has accused Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin, who Ukraine to continue to take fully. “Putin’s goal is to fill all Ukraine,” said Ukraine President at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) strategy conference on Friday: “No matter what he says, it is clear that he has set the war machine so far that he can no longer stop it, unless he is forced to fundamentally change his personal goals.”
An “area exchange” will not be enough to create peace, said Selenskyj in addition. US President Donald Trump had brought such an exchange as a way to peace in recent months. Ukraine strictly rejects this.
“Pause” in the conversations about the future of Ukraine
Meanwhile, said in Moscow Kreml-spokesman Dmitri Peskow, the conversations were during a break. “The communication channels exist, they have established themselves well,” said Peskow. “Our negotiators have the opportunity to communicate via these channels, but at the moment we should rather speak of a break.”
Negotiator Russia And Ukraine had met three times in Istanbul in the past few months. So far, however, the only tangible result of the talks have been prisoner exchanges. Trump’s mediation efforts have so far been in vain.
