Since August 2021 there have been two deportation fees to Afghanistan. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is now negotiating regular returns with Afghan representatives. The focus is on offenders.
In order to be able to deport more people to Afghanistan, the Federal Ministry of the Interior wants to clear practical hurdles. “We want to enable regular and regular returns to Afghanistan,” said Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt of the German Press Agency. “There are talks at the technical level with Afghan representatives,” added the CSU politician.
No official diplomatic relationships
Previously, “Bild” had reported that a delegation from the Federal Ministry of the Interior met with the Afghans in Qatar in order to establish a regular deportation mechanism. A posting of German representatives in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul is currently being organized to continue the discussions on site. Representatives of Katar are active as an intermediary. At the request of the dpa, the ministry did not want to provide any information about these details.
The Federal Government does not maintain diplomatic relations with the Islamist Taliban, which have been internationally isolated in Afghanistan since August 2021 because of its disregard for human rights.
A deportation since the change of government in Berlin
Since the Islamist Taliban was taken over in Kabul in August 2021 there have been twice deportations from Afghans from Germany. In August 2024 – at that time the coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP – 28 convicted offenders were brought to the Afghan capital.
In July of this year, an aircraft brought 81 men to Afghanistan, who, according to the countries, had appeared with killing offenses, sex crimes, acts of violence and drug offenses.
