After the start of the Ukraine war, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss apparently exchanged blows with the Russian ambassador – and without further ado showed him the door.
The West has unanimously condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine and called for an end to the violence. British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss also made this position clear: she summoned the Russian Ambassador Andrei Kelin to brief him on the British government’s position. At the meeting, the minister is said to have lost patience, reports the Sky News television channel.
The ambassador was supposed to explain “Russia’s illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.” However, the Russian representative’s remarks only served to worsen sentiment even further. “It was a heated meeting,” Sky News quoted a State Department source as saying. The foreign minister “threw the ambassador out early.”

“She said he should be ashamed that Russia has repeatedly lied and lost its last spark of credibility in the international community,” the source continued. The British news agency PA also reported that it was a “very grumpy meeting”.
In an official statement, Truss sharply criticized the Russian invasion: “I condemn in the strongest possible terms the appalling, unprovoked attack that President Putin launched on the Ukrainian people,” said the Foreign Minister. “We will work with our international partners to respond to this horrific act of aggression.” In an op-ed for the Telegraph, Truss said there would be “unprecedented” sanctions that would “leave no part of the regime untouched.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a phone call on Friday morning of the UK’s support and expressed his condolences for the victims so far.
