Next week Finance Minister Klingbeil will bring his budget into the Bundestag for 2026. The Court of Auditors already has some concerns.
The Federal Audit Office accuses Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) to drive the federal government into a debt spiral. Core state tasks could no longer be financed from the income permanently, according to an expert opinion on the draft budget 2026. “Rather, the federal government lives structurally through its circumstances.” Increasing federal expenses are not covered by the same extent that is growing to the same extent.
“Anyone plans to finance almost every third euro” on Pump “in 2026 is far from a solid financial industry,” criticizes the Court of Auditors. New debts are only a short -term way out and reduced reform pressure. “In the middle period, such a federal budget will be created in which a very significant share of interest loads is bound,” warns the Court of Auditors. There is a risk of debt spiral.
Klingbeil plans for 2026 with spending of around 520 billion euros. In the core budget alone, debt of almost 90 billion is to be accepted. In addition, there are more than 84 billion euros in loans from special pots, so that the federal government has a total of around 174 billion euros in fresh debts. Klingbeil wants to bring this budget into the Bundestag next week.
