Surprising announcement by US President Donald Trump: He will meet China’s President Xi Jinping in autumn. In the past few months there has been ice age between the countries.
US President Donald Trump will meet China’s head of state XI Jinping this autumn at the summit of the Asian-Pacific Economic Community (APEC) in South Korea. In his phone call to XI, he also agreed this Friday that he would travel to China early next year, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. In addition, XI will come to a visit to the USA at a suitable time. Trump did not give more details.
Trump had already hit XI several times during his first term. Among other things, both heads of state met personally in Osaka in Japanese in 2019, and in 2017 XI had traveled to Mar-A-Lago in the US state of Florida.
Donald Trump meets XI Jinping: There are many topics
It was actually expected that Trump could announce a deal in the case of the Chinese social media platform Tiktok after the phone call. The Chinese information remains unconcrete. Beijing respects the wishes of companies and is good if they negotiated according to the market rules and complied with China’s laws, said XI according to Xinhua. China hopes that the USA will offer Chinese companies that invested there an open and non -discriminatory business environment.
A few days ago, the US government said that there was “a framework for a TikTok deal” with China, where the previous owner bytedance has its headquarters. Trump and XI would seal the agreement in a conversation on Friday, said US Finance Minister Scott Bessent.
After the conversation, Trump in his post now spoke of progress in many important questions, including trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the approval of a Tikok deal. “The phone call was very good, we will make calls again, I welcome the TikTok permit”. At first he did not explain what he meant by that.
How China comments on the phone call
XI had criticized trade constraints in the phone call. The United States should avoid one -sided trade restrictions in order not to affect the results achieved from the consulting rounds of both sides, he said, according to the State news agency Xinhua. The conversation was therefore “positive” and “constructive”.
Representatives of China and the United States had only met this week in Madrid in Spanish for a fourth round of negotiations since the escalation in the customs dispute in the spring.
What the APEC is
According to its own statements, the Asian-Pacific Economic Community (APEC) consists of 21 states, including the USA, China, Russia, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. At the annual summit, heads of state and government advise on economic challenges and cooperation. This year the two-day APEC summit begins on October 31.
