USA: Democrat leader Schumer warns of “Way to the dictatorship”

The minority leader of the US Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, sees the USA on the “way to the dictatorship”. Schumer told CNN on Sunday, President Donald Trump transformed the US Ministry of Justice into an “instrument that pursues his enemies, regardless of whether they are guilty or not”. He added: “Dictatorships do that.”

Trump had called for Justice Minister Pam Bondi in his online service Truth Social on Saturday to proceed against certain political opponents. Politicians of the Democratic Party had suspended him twice an office and put him on trial five times. The President wrote “for no reason”. “Justice must be manufactured now !!!”, he said.

Trump did not comment on Schumer’s allegations for the time being. Trump called on Justice Minister Bondi for investigative proceedings against Schumer and James. “We can no longer hesitate, that destroys our reputation and our credibility,” he wrote.

The New York Attorney General James had sued Trump because he artificially inflated the assets of his real estate empire in order to obtain favorable conditions from banks and insurance companies. In February 2024, Trump was therefore sentenced to a total of 464 million euros.
