On the first attempt to name judges for the constitutional court, the coalition had failed due to an unsolicited commitment from the Union. Now Jens Spahn is confident.
Union parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn (CDU) confidently commented on the election of the three new judges for the Federal Constitutional Court in the Bundestag before the new attempt. “Yes, it will work on Thursday,” said Spahn on Sunday evening in the ARD show “Caren Miosga”. The lawyer Sigrid Emmenegger nominated by the SPD is a “very good” candidate.
Together with colleagues from the faction, he had a conversation with Emmenegger, Spahn reported. It is “very convincing” and “professionally well -versed”. “And that’s why it will be successful on Thursday,” said Spahn.
The first attempt to choose judge had failed
The first attempt by the black and red coalition to fill the vacancies at the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe had failed in July: the Union had withdrawn its initially guaranteed support for the candidate Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf nominated by the SPD. The Potsdam legal professor finally waived a candidacy.
Emmenegger is still a judge at the Federal Administrative Court. In addition to her, the SPD has nominated the Munich lawyer Ann-Katrin Kaufhold as a candidate; The Union supports Günter Spinner’s candidacy, which is currently chairman of the Federal Labor Court. The Bundestag election committee meets on Monday evening to officially set up the candidates.
Spahn: “Talking in time is important”
The failed judge election in July had caused moods in the coalition before the parliamentary summer break. The SPD accused the coalition partner Union not to have complied with commitments. Spahn in particular was strongly criticized as the group leader.
With “Caren Miosga” Spahn now admitted: “That shouldn’t have happened.” Spahn described the most important teaching from the failed coordination of the importance of timely coordination: “My greatest knowledge – this is banal, but timely talking and communicating is important at all levels.”
