UN General Assembly in the News Blog: France recognizes the state of Palestine

The British government sees the two-state solution in the Middle East conflict in view of the bitter Gaza war in acute danger. “The two-state solution threatens to disappear under the rubble,” said Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper at the conference called by France and Saudi Arabia before the United Nations in New York. The reason for this are “persistent bloodshed, man -made famine, terrorism and hostage frames, the expansion of settlements and settlers”.

That is exactly what “what extremists want on all sides,” said Cooper“But we refuse to give up hope”. Instead, “urgently traded” – and the recognition of a Palestinian state should accelerate the way to peace. Among other things, it confirmed the already known requirement of Great Britain for an immediate ceasefire between Israel’s military and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas and the release of all hostages.

With Great Britain and Canada, the first representatives of the round of the Great Western Economic Nations (G7) decided to recognize a Palestinian state on Sunday.
