United Nations: Trump with the broad side against UN and open borders

US President Donald Trump recommended himself as the future Nobel Peace Prize winner before the UN General Assembly and distributed against the United Nations and a policy of open borders. Sharp criticism of the United Nations

“Everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize for each of these achievements,” said Trump, adding: “I am not concerned with gaining prices, but saving life.” It was “a great honor” to end the wars. “It’s a shame that I had to do these things instead of the United Nations. And sad that in all of these cases the United Nations didn’t even try to help.” The UN would not even have called him to offer help. “The United Nations weren’t there for us. They weren’t there.” The organization would “have such a great potential”, but it does not meet it.

Defective escalator and broken teleprompter

Trump complained about a defective escalator in the UN headquarters. This suddenly stopped when he and his wife Melania had used her. “If the First Lady were not so good in shape, it would have fallen, but it is in good shape. We are both good in shape.”

Previously, Trump had already complained that his teleprompter initially did not work. “I can only say whoever serves this teleprompter is in great difficulties.” The audience in the large hall of the UN laugh. “These are the two things I got from the United Nations,” he said: “A bad escalator and a bad teleprompter. Thank you very much.”

After the speech, the President of the UN General Assembly, former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, made it clear that there were no problems with the UN’s teleparters. “We can assure you that the UN telepromps work very well.”

The spokesman for UN General Secretary António Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric, told the German Press Agency (dpa) that the White House had spoken by Trump’s speech. “The teleprompter was served by the White House.”

Trump wanted to renovate for half a billion UN headquarters

Trump also talked about his time as a real estate mogul. At that time he wanted to renovate the UN headquarters. He had given a bid for “the renovation and reconstruction”, he said. “I said at the time I would do it for $ 500 million, and everything would be rebuilt beautifully.”

Those responsible had decided against this – a wrong decision from Trump’s perspective. The Republican said that the United Nations then had to deal with significantly higher costs.

The UN headquarters on the East River in Manhattan consists of several buildings built around 75 years ago. The last extensive renovation was completed about ten years ago and cost a total of around two billion dollars. This renovation planned since the 1990s – was the largest in the history of the building.

Trump pays a new federal government “great respect”

The US President found praise for the federal government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). “I pay great respect for Germany. Germany was led on a very sick way, both in immigration policy and in energy policy,” he said, alluding to the promotion of renewable energies by the traffic light government of the then Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). “They became green and went bankrupt.”

Trump mistakenly claimed that the new federal government was therefore again overwhelmed to fossil fuels and nuclear power. “I am praising Germany for this,” he said. In fact, Germany got out of nuclear power. In the black and red federal government, however, there are voices that are wrong for nuclear power and are also considering a stronger use of gas as transition energy.

“Experiment open borders failed”

Trump campaigned for a tough migration policy. “It is time to end the failed experiment of the open borders,” he said, adding: “Proud nations must be able to protect their communities and prevent their societies from being overwhelmed by people who have never seen before, with other customs, religions and simply”. He said to the audience: “Your countries are driving the dogs.”

Because of the war of aging Russia against Ukraine for more than three and a half years, Trump Moscow threatened to do tariffs – and again increased the pressure on European partners. If Russia is not willing to conclude an agreement to end the Ukraine War, the United States is willing to impose a number of “very huge tariffs”. He added: “Europe has to get a gait”, it cannot continue as before and buy oil and gas from Russia.

Middle East: Free all hostages in the Gaza Strip

Trump again called for the immediate release of all hostages in the Gaza Strip from the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas and spoke out for further peace negotiations. However, there is currently no ceasefire in sight: The latest ground offensive in Israel in the city of Gaza has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee.
