Just a few days ago, Minister of Economics Katharina Reiche (CDU) spoke out for a change of course at the energy transition. Now there is criticism of a cabinet colleague.
Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider (SPD) has gone at a distance from the energy policy goals of Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU). In a guest post for the “Handelsblatt” (Wednesday) Schneider wrote that a political loyal course would lead to considerable additional costs and endangers our climate goals “.
Reiche had outlined their energy policy goals last week and, among other things, announced the removal from the expansion goals in hydrogen.
According to Schneider, the hydrogen bum stalls. However, lower goals are “not a solution”.
Environment Minister Schneider: “Climate Political Sackgasse”
Schneider also sees the possibility of combining gas power plants with CCS technology to separate and storing CO2. “New gas power plants must be ready for the use of hydrogen. The deposition of CO2 and its subsequent storage (CCS) is not a competitive technology for gas power plants today and in the foreseeable future,” wrote the SPD politician. “Only relying on pure gas power plants would not be a sustainable solution, but a climate -political dead end.”
Schneider also warned against braking when expanding the power grids. An “accelerated network expansion is required, which is based on the necessary expansion of renewable energies”.
