The UN announced to the escalator that a cameraman of the US delegation wanted to document the arrival of Trump and his wife – he had entered the escalator in front of them and drove up backwards. According to the UN spokes, an investigation subsequently showed that a built-in security mechanism had been triggered at the upper end of the escalator. The cameraman may have caused this security function accidentally, it said.

For many representatives of the 193 member states and visitors, the acoustics in the large hall of the UN General Assembly are always irritating because the volume of the spoken words on the podium is perceived as quiet.
