South Korea: North Korea has enough uranium for 40 atomic bombs

According to South Korean information, the internationally isolated North Korea probably has up to two tons of highly enriched uranium.

The secret services estimated Pyongyang’s stocks on highly -enriched uranium with a purity degree of more than 90 percent to up to 2000 kilograms, said South Korean Minister of Unification Chung Dong Young on Thursday to journalists.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), such a quantity is sufficient for the production of more than 40 bombs.

“Even at this moment, North Korea’s uranium centrifuges are in operation at four locations,” said the minister. He added that only five to six kilograms of plutonium were sufficient to build a single atomic bomb. With a lot of 2000 kilograms of high -enhanced urans, which could only be reserved for plutonium production, “an enormous number of nuclear weapons” is possible.

According to experts, North Korea already has nuclear weapons. It is no secret that North Korea has “considerable” quantities of highly enriched uranium, the most important material for the production of nuclear warheads. However, the information is rarely publicly confirmed.

Minister of Association Chung urged the urgency to stop North Korea’s nuclear weapons development. He pointed out that sanctions in the case of North Korea were ineffective. A Summit North Korea with the United States is the only solution.
