“Hybrid attack” with drones at Danish airports

Drones are spotted again over Danish airports. The investigators rule out a coincidence, the head of government is aimed at NATO. What is known about the background?

After renewed drone sightings at several airports, which are seen as a “hybrid attack”, Denmark increases alert. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen spoke of a “serious situation” after a crisis exchange with NATO general secretary Mark Rutte, in Germany, Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said: “We are not at war, but we are also no longer in full peace.”

The Danish authorities assume that a professional player is responsible for the airspace incidents. More detailed details have not been announced. There is no information that would allow the author to name, said the head of the Fe Military Dimension Service, Thomas Ahrenkiel, at a press conference in the evening. “We are in a serious situation,” he said.

Previously, the Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen had already said in an interview with public service broadcasting that there was not enough information to commit himself to a person responsible. The head of the Pet domestic intelligence agency, Finn Borch, said it looks like a kind of hybrid warfare that can also be observed elsewhere in Europe. The risk of Russian sabotage in Denmark is great. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen spoke of a “hybrid attack with different types of drones” in the morning.

In a message from the embassy in Denmark, Russia denied assumptions to be responsible for the use of drone. The Danish authorities do not rule out anything at this point. Pistorius spoke of a new reality “with which we deal”. Drone missions belonged to the strategy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, without “we could say it in this case,” said the SPD politician. “We are attacked, hybrid, with disinformation campaigns and by drone ingress.”

Always reported new drone sightings

Just two days after the extensive drone alarm at Copenhagen Airport, further drones were spotted on a number of Danish airports until Thursday night until the night of Thursday. At Aalborg Airport in the north of NATO country, the airspace had to be temporarily blocked.

Drones were also observed near the airports in the important port city of Esbjerg, in Sønderborg near the German border and in the small town of Billund. Also at the Skrydstrup military airfield. All of these places are located in Jutland, the western part of Denmark, which borders Germany in south. The responsible police stations said that there were no danger to flight passengers and humans.

In the course of Thursday, new drone sightings in Denmark were also reported, including critical infrastructure such as military facilities, oil fields and ports. Ships in the North Sea were also reported, these are not confirmed.

The national crisis team (NOST) increased operational readiness. It has not yet been decided whether NATO articles 4 will be activated and thus, like other allianz states, the alliance are set in motion, said Lund Poulsen. But that is considered.

Rutte assured Frederiksen solidarity and close cooperation. The situation was taken very seriously, wrote Rutte after talking to Frederiksen on the social network X. The Allies worked together to ensure the security of the critical infrastructure.

Massive disorders in Copenhagen on Monday

It was only on Monday evening that the viewing of several larger drones had led to a good four -hour blocking of the Copenhagen airport, which is one of the most important Scandinavia. Around 100 flights were painted, tens of thousands of passengers were affected by impairments.

Frederiksen subsequently spoke of the “heaviest attack on Danish critical infrastructure”. It is still unclear who put behind it. Frederiksen did not want to rule out Russia’s responsibility. The Kremlin denied a involvement. In the meantime, flight operations in Copenhagen are running normally again.

Drone alarm in the head of the government

Now the airport in Aalborg – the hometown of Frederiksen, which is considered a decisive supporter of Ukraine – also had to be temporarily closed to starts and landings. Since the airport is significantly smaller than the capital airport and the drones were only sighted late Wednesday evening, only a few flights had to be redirected or deleted. After a few hours, the airspace was released again.

At around 3:00 a.m. the night, the police declared the on -site deployment on site, but announced intensive investigations. Operations manager Jesper Bøjgaard Madsen said that it was not possible to get the drones from the sky. However, it is assumed that they are no longer in the area. In the morning, the first planes were able to take off again.

The drone activity in Aalborg is similar to those in Copenhagen, said the head of the Danish Reich police, Thorkild Fogde, during a nightly press conference. You can see a similar pattern, the drones are clearly visible and on the move with the light switched on.

The local police spoke of several drones of a certain size – the Reich Police already ruled out that it was private models. In the incident in Copenhagen, the police page has so far been talking about a “capable actor”, that is, perpetrators who have the necessary skills and tools to do such a maneuver – either, thereby to create unrest or possibly also to test out how long their drones in the air will remain unobserved.
