Hungary also classifies Antifa as a terrorist organization

Hungary’s right -wing populist Prime Minister Orban has made his threat come true to officially branded groups, which he sees as terrorist. He follows the USA.

Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban, based on US President Donald Trump, takes action against the Antifa movement: According to a government regulation, the state must create and publish a list of organizations and people that are to be classified as “terroristist”. The corresponding regulation has now been published in the official Hungarian Law Gazette.

The people affected threaten sanctions such as freezing funds and economic resources, the ban or restriction of financial transactions as well as deportation and entry bans.

Hungary initially put two groups on this list: an “Antifa group” that has not been described in more detail and a left-wing extremist group known in Germany as a “hammer gang”. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office places members of this group for attacks on actual and supposed right -wing extremists in Budapest in February 2023.

In principle, the government decides which association or person comes to this official Hungarian list at the proposal of the Minister of Justice or another minister who is responsible for fighting terrorism. This minister must check this list regularly and suggest updates.

As a reason, Orban’s ordinance lists several cases of left -wing extremist violence in Europe – including the incidents in Budapest in February 2023. In this context, the non -born person Maja T. is located in custody in Budapest, charged with attempted life -threatening bodily harm. You face a conviction of 24 years in prison.

With his approach, Orban deliberately follows the role model of his political friend Trump: “Even in Hungary, it is time to classify organizations such as Antifa as terrorist associations based on the American model,” said the right -wing populist a week ago. Trump has also announced that the Antifa movement in the United States as a “significant terrorist organization”.
