In many NRW cities, today decides who will be mayor. With the turnout, there is traditionally a difference between runoff election and the first vote.
So far, there has been an inconsistent picture in the turnout in the stab elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the city, around 31.3 percent of the almost 808,000 eligible voters voted in the city of Cologne, where the Greens and SPD fight for the office of mayor, according to the city. In Dortmund, where candidates from the SPD and CDU compete for the OB office, the participation was 22.93 percent at around 1:00 p.m. (last runoff election 2020: 24.19 percent).
Another picture emerges in the cities where the AfD is in the run in the run. In Duisburg, according to a spokeswoman, the turnout was 35.03 percent at 2:00 p.m. (last runoff election 2012: 19.69 percent). In Gelsenkirchen, 38.34 percent of those entitled to vote took part in the vote until 2:30 p.m. This is a significant higher value than five years ago. In 2020 it was 26.80 percent at the same time. In both cities, an SPD and an AfD candidate went into the runoff election.
In Bielefeld in East Westphalia, the duel between the CDU and the SPD drives people to the ballot boxes. According to the city, the turnout was 32.04 percent at 2 p.m. During the previous runoff election in the fight for the OB office in Bielefeld, this value was 22.1 percent five years ago.
Until 6:00 p.m., people in the affected municipalities and circles to submit their votes are called up in the stitch elections. At the first vote two weeks ago, around 32 percent of those entitled to vote had submitted their votes nationwide. Traditionally, interest in the runoff election is lower.
There are stab elections wherever the first round two weeks ago none of the candidates won more than half of the votes. In 21 independent cities, the mayor and 15 circles are fought for the district offices. In addition, mayors are still elected in more than 100 cities belonging to the district.
In the stab elections, all those who were entitled to vote in their municipality in the first ballot two weeks ago. You will not receive a new election notification. However, letters of elections were sent. Even without election notification or letters of memory, citizens can choose in the optional room if they have not submitted an application for an postal election. Then you have to bring a photo ID.
Those who were only 16 years old after the first round of the election on September 14 and thus achieved local election age must not vote. The prerequisites for an election entitlement must already have in the main election.
