The election is about the future for the EU accession candidate Moldau. According to the first counting results, the ruling pro -European party is ahead. And the pro -Russian forces?

In the parliamentary election in the Republic of Moldova, the ruling pro -European party campaign and solidarity (PAS) around President Maia Sandu is heading for a majority. After counting around 80 percent of the ballot papers, it was ahead of a good 44 percent late in the evening. The Russia -friendly patriotic block of the former head of state Igor Dodon came to around 28 percent, as was documented on the homepage of the Central Election Commission.



The election of the parliament in the impoverished agricultural state between EU member Romania and Ukraine is considered directional. Moldau with its 2.4 million inhabitants has been a candidate for the EU since 2022.

The Prewest President Sandu hopes for a majority of pro -European forces to continue reforms for joining the EU. She had previously accused Russia of massive influence in the election campaign. Moldova authorities spoke of buying Russian voices, disinformation in social networks and cyber attacks.


Prorussian and prorundernic forces can hope

Hope for a move into parliament, in which 101 seats can be awarded for four years, the Russian -friendly forces of the Block Alternative and the Nostru party of businessman Renato Usatii were also able to get. Unexpectedly, the PPDA party, which was once founded for a union with Romania, also made the jump over the 5 percent hurdle after counting the first votes.




The turnout was given with a good 52 percent and was therefore higher than 2021 (48 percent). The outcome of the vote depends primarily on the urn gang of the diaspora abroad. Hundreds of thousands of Moldova live in the EU, they traditionally have a great influence on who rules in their homeland.


Allegations of election manipulation

Moscow also accused the leadership in the capital Chisinau manipulation – so Russia -friendly parties and forces were excluded from the election. On election day there were complaints that citizens from the renegade region of Transnistria could not get to Vlaver due to a bridge closed in the course of an alleged bomb threat. Traditionally, people in Transnistria with a Moldovian passport also have an influence on the election outcome.

Moldau has around 2.4 million inhabitants. Hundreds of thousands of Moldau who live abroad are also called for election. The preliminary end result is expected this Monday.
