Trump receives Netanyahu: Can a Gaza deal succeed?

After almost two years of the devastating war in the Gaza Strip, despair is enormous. Israel is increasingly isolated worldwide. Can a new plan of Trump bring about the desired turn?

Almost two years after the beginning of the Gaza War, US President Donald Trump wants to present a specific plan for an end to bloodshed. The consultations about the plan are “in the final phase,” said Trump on the news page “Axios”. The Arab world wants peace, as well as Israel. According to media reports, he presents the draft with 21 points this Monday at 11:00 a.m. local time (5 p.m. CEST) in the White House.

Comprehensive plan for reorganization in Gaza

According to Israeli and US reports, the plan provides an immediate release of the remaining hostages from the Islamist Hamas – in return for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners – and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza strip. The terrorist organization Hamas should no longer play a role in the administration of the coastal strip, and Israel is also not allowed to annex the area. Instead, the Gaza Strip is to be ruled by a transitional government of Palestinian Technocrats under the supervision of an international body.

According to reports, the planning and the economic development of the largely destroyed coastal area are also part of the plan. The Palestinian population is to be encouraged to stay in the Gaza Strip and build up a better future there. Hamas is to be disarmed and an international security force initially ensures order, while a Palestinian police force is being trained.

Netanyahu: Free escort for Hamas leaders conceivable

Netanyahu told the US broadcaster Fox News that the Hamas leaders might want to grant free escort abroad. If you end the war and release all the hostages, you will let it go, he said. So far, Hamas strictly rejects the weapons.

A way to a future Palestinian state as a result of peace negotiations under US mediation is also promised as part of the plan. The Palestinian autonomy authority, which prevails in the West Bank, is therefore to implement a reform program so that it can later also take control in the Gaza Strip. However, Netanyahu vehemently rejects both points.

With an official reaction of Israel to the plan, it is only expected after the meeting, possibly only after Netanyahu’s return to Israel. Hamas announced on Sunday that she had not yet received a suggestion.

Trump speaks of “chance for real peace”

Trump said “Axios” about his efforts: “Everyone has come together to achieve an agreement, but we still have to bring it under the roof.” The cooperation with the Arab countries was “fantastic”.

He assumes that Hamas will agree with them that it has great respect for the Arab world. “The Arab world wants peace, Israel wants peace and Bibi wants to peace.” If a deal succeeds, the US President believes that not only Israel will benefit. “It will be the first chance for real peace in the Middle East. But we have to make it first,” quotes him Axios.

According to US Vice President JD Vance, negotiations are currently taking place between representatives of Arab countries, Israel and the US government. For the US side, the special envoy Steve Witkoff and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio would lead the talks, Vance told Fox News. Vance was optimistic there, but emphasized that negotiations could fail at the last minute.

Ultrar rights increase before Trump meeting pressure on Netanyahu

Ultrar rights coalition partner and settler representative increased the pressure on the Israeli head of government before the meeting. They urged Netanyahu to annex parts of the occupied West Bank and not to end the war in the Gaza Strip without ending Hamas’ military defeat, the “Times of Israel” reported.

Trump has been awakening hope for a breakthrough in the negotiations on the end of the Gaza war for days. He also emphasized that he would not allow Israel to incorporate the West Bank. The Palestinians claim the area as part of a future independent state. Several important western countries had recently recognized a Palestinian state.

Hamas calls for an attack stop of Israel – life of hostages threatened

Hamas called on the Israeli army on Sunday to hire its attacks in the city of Gaza for 24 hours. The life of two Israeli hostages is in real danger, it was said in a message from the Hamas military arm. The troops would also have to withdraw to an area south of “Street 8” in the city of Gaza immediately so that they could be tried to “get” the two hostages out.

Previously, the Kassam brigades had announced that the contact with the two hostages had stopped in the past 48 hours due to the intensive Israeli attacks in the city. However, Israel did not go into this demand for the terrorist organization. 48 hostages are still captured in the Gaza Strip, including German citizens. According to Israeli information, 20 of them are still alive.

Report: Dozens of deaths in constant attacks in the Gaza Strip

According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, at least 41 people were killed in the case of constant Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army said that within 24 hours around 140 military destinations were attacked in the coastal strip.

According to Israeli army information, around 780,000 civilians have already fled from the city of Gaza, in which around one million people stayed before the start of the soil offensive two weeks ago.

Since the beginning of the Gaza War almost two years ago, according to the health authority controlled by the Hamas, more than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, including numerous women and children. The war was triggered by the massacre in Israel carried out by terrorists of Hamas and other organizations, in which around 1,200 people were killed on October 7, 2023 and more than 250 others were dragged into the Gaza strips as hostages.
