Pro-European party PAS wins parliamentary election in Moldova

Despite the massive interference of Russia, Moldaus has opted for a pro-European course. The PAS government party won more than 50 percent of the votes.
In the trend-setting parliamentary election in Moldau, the pro-European government party PAS from Head of State Maia Sandu defended her majority. The PAS, who had ruled since 2021, won 50.03 percent of the vote, as the election commission announced after counting more than 99.5 percent of the vote on Monday morning. The pro-Russian patriotic block came to almost 24.3 percent.
The urn gang had been overshadowed by allegations by the head of the state and the EU Commission, Russia tests massively to influence the election in his favor. Most surveys recently had Sandus Party PAS, but the election outcome was nevertheless considered open.
Sandu warned of choice: Moldau could lose everything ”
Sandu had described the parliamentary election in advance as “the most important in history” Moldaus. After being levy in the capital Chisinau, the President said on Sunday that her country was in “danger”: “If the Moldalers are not adequately mobilized and if the Russian interference has a significant impact on our choice, Moldau could lose everything it has won, and this could also mean a significant risk to other countries like Ukraine.”
The former Soviet Republic of Moldova, which has officially negotiated an EU accession since June 2024, is still one of the poorest countries in Europe. The dissatisfaction among the approximately 2.4 million citizens is growing. The opposition Patriotic Block accuses the PAS ruling party of deteriorating the economic situation due to the break with Moscow and driven the gas prices.
