Mülheim No new mayor gets on the Ruhr. During the counting at the weekend, voices were apparently exchanged – which turned the result upside down.
When counting the runoff votes for the office of mayor, there was a breakdown in Mülheim an der Ruhr – which now turns everything upside down. Unlike initially, there is probably no change of power in the town hall. The city corrected the preliminary end result on Monday evening. Accordingly, incumbent Marc Buchholz (CDU) is now in front – and not his competitor Nadia Khalaf (SPD).
According to the city, a routine check of the election result was noticed that votes had been exchanged in an postal voting district. The SPD candidate had been assigned the votes of the CDU candidate that the CDU candidate had “accidentally” received the votes of his SPD competitor. The WDR reported about it.
Correction changes election result in Mülheim on the Ruhr drastically
According to the city, the due correction now means that incumbent Buchholz is ahead with more than 100 votes – and thus has the majority on its side. However, the corrected end result should only be confirmed on Thursday (October 2). Then the election committee comes together.
For the two candidates, the news should cause opposing emotions. SPD challenger Khalaf had been able to believe in faith to be the new mayor of Mülheim an der Ruhr. After the first figures, she was at the forefront, albeit very narrowly with 50.07 percent and a lead of less than 70 votes. The correction now changes everything.
Buchholz was elected mayor of the city in 2020.
