The CDU politician Kuban demands that the previous German climate goals collect. The fraction management sees it differently.
Union faction vice Andreas Jung rejects the demand of his group colleague Tilman Kuban (both CDU) after the climate goals. “In view of the progressive climate change, climate protection remains an outstanding task,” said Jung to the news portal “T-Online”. “It has not been a year since we have known each other in the election program and coalition agreement on climate neutrality in 2045,” emphasized the faction vice -responsible for environmental and climate protection.
The former head of the Junge Union, Cuban, had previously advertised to change the climate goals in Germany and the EU with the argument of having jobs. “It is sufficient if we are 80 percent climate -neutral in 2045 and have received prosperity and democracy – this is still very ambitious in a global comparison,” said the European policy spokesman for the Union Group of the newspaper “Welt”. Only then “should we again discuss how we deal with the remaining 20 percent”.
Warning of “empty factory halls”
According to Cuban, the EU climate center 2050 will also be under violent pressure. Germany should not isolate itself on this question. “80 percent climate protection with prosperity and democracy are better than 100 percent with empty factory halls,” said Kuban.
Jung replied: In view of the economic situation, climate protection is needed “planning and investment security with stable and reliable framework” and at the same time “pragmatic ways to implement”. “So the goal is, but we will only achieve it if we absolutely combine climate protection, economic strength and social balance,” said the faction vice.
In the Climate Protection Act, it is now stipulated that Germany should reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases by 65 percent by 2030 compared to 1990. By 2045, Germany wants to be climate -neutral, i.e. no more greenhouse gases than can be saved again.
