He warns briefly, then Chancellor Merz says a sentence that has it all: “We are not in war, but we are no longer in peace.”
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) commented on the question of how high he assesses the risk of war for Germany.
“I want to say it with a sentence that may be a bit shocking at first glance, but I mean exactly how I say it: we are not in war, but we are no longer in peace,” he said at the “Rheinische Post” in Düsseldorf. Live at a time in a time: the rule -based world order is replaced by pure power policy. This goes hand in hand with the use of military means. “We are in a completely different world,” said Merz.
Merz on drone incidents: “worrying development”
The drone overflows, which most recently took place in Denmark and about Schleswig-Holstein, are a worrying development, said Merz. So far, it has apparently been unarmed drones, but they are equipped with spy technology and have up to eight meters span. “We don’t know exactly where they really come from. It is reasonable to assume that they come from Russia.”
Dealing with this danger is anything but trivial, since the Federal Republic is now a densely populated country. Therefore, such an eight-meter drone cannot simply get from the sky. “It flies into any front yard, a kindergarten or a hospital. We have to be a bit of a look at what we are doing.” The best thing would be not to let these drones into European airspace at all, emphasized Merz.
