“Body Shaming” often hits overweight people. But people with other physical properties are also victims of discrimination. Italy wants to set an example.
Italy introduces a national day against so -called body shaming. This day against the degradation of the external appearance of humans – according to the official name – is to be committed on May 16. The Senate in Rome approved a corresponding draft law, which took the last parliamentary hurdle.
Initiatives should take place on the day to draw attention to the dangers associated with the degradation of people due to their appearance. The law still has to be published in the Official Journal.
“Body Shaming” describes the discrimination, insult and devaluation of people due to their physical properties. The phenomenon often hits overweight, but also people with other body characteristics.
Court: Giorgia Meloni victim of “Body Shaming”
In Italy, a right of three coalition with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni rules at the top. According to a court, Meloni himself has also become the victim of “body shaming” in the past.
A few years ago, a journalist wrote in a heated exchange on social media: “You don’t worry me, Giorgia Meloni. Because you are only 1.2 meters tall. I can’t even see you.” A court sentenced the journalist to a fine. It rated her statements as body -related discrimination. Meloni is reportedly about 1.60 meters tall.
