Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer sees a broad backing for his plan for digital administration for Google and other platforms. He locates this support in the government factions of the Union and the SPD and the Greens, as he said to the Editorial Network Germany. Weimer confirmed that it was still presenting a concept for the delivery in autumn.
“We cannot allow big-tech platforms to get the power of interpretation and that we can no longer control this democratically,” said Weimer. “When we finally pay fair taxes in Germany, many European countries will follow.” He wanted to act against the monopoly of Google under antitrust, regulatory and tax. The group should be subject to German press law and its liability.

Economic Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) and Union faction leader Jens Spahn (CDU) had expressed reservations against Weimer’s plan in the summer. Among other things, it is feared that measures at the expense of the US companies could tighten the customs dispute with Washington. In the meantime, he has a broad backing, said Weimer. If the United States increases tariffs because of the delivery, it may be that it must bend.
US President Donald Trump had states that have digital tax or regulations for digital and action against US companies, including additional tariffs on their exports to the United States.
