There is movement in the solution to the Middle East conflict: Egypt confirms that Israel and Hamas want to have talks at the beginning of the week. Above all, it should be about an issue.
Egypt invites representatives of Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas to talk about the exchange of Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip with Palestinian prisoners in the course of the peace plan of US President Donald Trump. This was announced by the Foreign Ministry in Cairo in the evening.
Previously, reports from the beginning of such talks on Sunday had spoken. The – presumably indirect – discussions are “part of the efforts to build on the regional and international momentum”, which was created according to Trump’s idea of peace plan. The details of an exchange should be discussed.
Hamas and Israel could meet in Sharm el-Scheich
A place of the meeting was not mentioned. Previously, the city of Al-Arisch on the Sinai Peninsula near the Gaza Strip had been mentioned in media reports. Several television channels have now reported that the talks were held in the Skharm El-Sheikh tourist location in the south of the peninsula.
According to previous information from sources in its environment, Islamist Hamas wanted to send a delegation to Egypt for talks about the peace plan in the evening. Previously, the Israeli broadcaster Kan, citing negotiation circles, had reported that an Israeli negotiation team would leave to Egypt within one day.
The terrorist organization Hamas had said that it was fundamentally ready to hand over all living and dead hostages. The prerequisite is the dismissal of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons provided for in the peace plan and that “reasonable conditions for the exchange on site are guaranteed” – without explaining these conditions. At the moment there are 48 hostages in the violence of Islamists, including German citizens. According to Israeli information 20, the kidnapped are still alive.
