Two years after the Hamas massacre, Friedrich Merz commemorates the suffering of the hostages and their families. He also looks carefully into his own country.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz warns in view of the 2nd anniversary of Hamas attack on Israel of anti-Semitism in Germany. “Since October 7, 2023, we have been experiencing a new wave of anti-Semitism in Germany. It shows itself in old and new guise-on social media, on the universities, on our streets; louder, increasingly outrageous and increasingly in the form of violence,” said the CDU politician in a video message.
He is aimed at everyone in Germany with a request, said Merz. “Go today, go to our Jewish citizens tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, wherever it is possible for you. Go to the Jewish communities.” Everyone should show that they are on the side of the Jews. “And that we will do everything together to ensure that Jews can live here in Germany without fear that they can live with confidence,” said Merz.
On October 7, 2023, terrorists of the radical Islamic Hamas, together with other Islamists, caused the worst massacre in Israel’s history. Around 1,200 people were killed at the time, more than 250 dragged into the Gaza strip.
“All hostages must be released immediately”
Merz said October 7th tore a deep wound. “He went down in the history books of the Jewish people as a black day. Today, two years ago, Hamas Israel attacked in a barbaric way,” said the Chancellor.
Merz said about the kidnapped hostages: “They suffer unimaginable things, today for two years.” The suffering of their relatives can only be guessed, the Chancellor also said in the Chancellery with a view to talks with hostage members this week. “But we share your pain. And we confirm our demand: all hostages have to be released immediately. We put great hope in the peace process.”
