After more than two years of torturous captivity, Hamas’ living hostages are free again. Israel is watching their return with fear and joy. The impressions in pictures.
In Tel Aviv, thousands of people cheered the release of the 20 remaining living hostages from the hands of Hamas.
All 20 living hostages are free
The prisoners are in the care of the Israeli army after more than two years of torturous captivity, the military said. Alon Ohel, Matan Angrest, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Eitan Mor, Gali and Ziv Berman as well as Omri Miran were among those released. Ohel and the Berman twins are German-Israelis.
Four German-Israelis are among the 20 living freedmen. In the Reim military camp on the edge of the Gaza Strip there will be a first reunion with relatives as well as a medical examination and the opportunity to shower and change clothes. The people should then be flown to hospitals for further treatment.
Donald Trump: “The war is over”
Israel’s military does not assume that Hamas will be able to hand over all 28 dead hostages on Monday – within the 72-hour period agreed as part of the ceasefire.
According to US President Trump, the war is over, regardless of the pending further peace negotiations. “The war is over,” he said on the way to Israel. He assumes that the ceasefire will hold. In doing so, he contradicted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had previously said that the fight was not over yet.
