After the agreement on the Gaza war, attention is again focused on the war in Ukraine. Donald Trump appeals to Vladimir Putin. But Russia reacts stubbornly.

US President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin a few days before a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington. “I’m very disappointed because Vladimir and I had a very good relationship. We probably still have that,” Trump said at the White House. “I don’t know why he continues this war.”

Putin simply doesn’t want to end the war, Trump said. “And I think that makes him look very bad. He could end it. He could end it quickly.” At the same time, the US President paid tribute to Ukraine for its defense against the Russian war of aggression for more than three and a half years.

Russia apparently ready for talks

The Kremlin welcomes US President Donald Trump’s intention to focus on a peace solution for Ukraine following the ceasefire in Gaza. Russia is still open to talks, says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. It is hoped that the USA could use its influence on Ukraine for a peace agreement. At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman criticized talks about a possible delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Trump at the White House on Friday. The US President confirmed this. “He wants guns. He wants tomahawks,” Trump said. The US President had previously not ruled out supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine and recently said he wanted to talk to the Russian side about the issue. Tomahawk-type cruise missiles have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers and can in principle also be equipped with nuclear warheads.
