War in Ukraine: Rocket hits government building in Kharkiv

Cars drive across Freedom Square in Kharkiv – suddenly a huge fireball, from which a huge cloud of smoke rises into the sky. Kyiv accuses Moscow of killing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure.

According to information from Kyiv, there have again been heavy Russian attacks in the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a video on Twitter showing a rocket impact directly on the central Freedom Square. A huge explosion can be seen in front of the administration building, after driving cars could be seen there shortly before the impact.

“Russia is waging war in violation of international humanitarian law,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry tweeted. It accused the neighboring country of killing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure. This could not be independently verified. Russia denies the accusation. Nothing was initially known about victims. The ministry went on to write: “Russia’s main target is large cities, which are now being fired upon by its missiles.”

The Russian troops continued to advance towards the country’s second largest city during the night. According to Ukrainian sources, eleven were killed and dozens injured in attacks on Monday. 87 homes were destroyed. Russia claims not to attack civilian objects.
