Ukraine: Prisoners with combat experience to go to war

Ukraine needs every man in the war against Russia. President Selenskyj now even wants to lift prison sentences in order to strengthen the army – the main concern is the capital Kyiv.

Ukraine is mobilizing all available forces in the war with Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a speech that he would also release prisoners who had “real combat experience” and let them go to war. With Russian attacks on the country continuing, defense is “key,” Zelensky said.

The release of the inmates is a difficult moral decision, but necessary for the defense of the country, the President said. Earlier, the first peace negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia on the border with Belarus ended without a result.

Seleskyj: Prisoners are supposed to defend Ukraine in the war

“All sanctions against people involved in anti-terrorist operations will be lifted,” Zelenskyy said. “When I became president, I said that each of us is the president because we are all responsible for the country. And now it has come to be that each of us is a warrior.”

Ukraine: Civilians support army

According to Zelenskyj, the prisoners should work off their guilt at the focal points of the war. That will probably be Kyiv in the next few days: the Ukrainian troops are still able to defend the capital, but a kilometer-long Russian military convoy is rolling towards Kyiv. “Kyiv is an important target for the enemy. That’s why the capital is under constant threat,” President Zelenskyy said in his video message.

According to Zelenskyy, which could not be independently verified, Russia has carried out 56 rocket attacks on Ukraine since the invasion began five days ago. 113 cruise missiles were fired. However, resistance to the Russian invasion is great – apparently greater than Vladimir Putin expected.

Ukraine establishes Foreign Legion for Foreigners

After the Russian invasion, the President ordered a general mobilization. Men between the ages of 18 and 60 are no longer allowed to leave the country. Conscripts and reservists were drafted. The order is valid for 90 days.

In addition, Zelenskyj had announced the establishment of a “Foreign Legion” in which foreigners can voluntarily support Ukraine in the fight against Russia. “This will be the most important proof of your support for our country,” said the President of Ukraine. Weapons were also issued to civilians who volunteered for action.
