The situation in Gaza is not calming down. The Israelis are attacking targets in the south in response to Hamas attacks. Israel’s police minister speaks clearly.
In Gaza The ceasefire turns out to be very fragile. Israel’s army confirmed airstrikes on Rafah on Sunday in response to attacks by Hamas and accused the terrorist organization ruling the coastal strip of a serious violation of the agreement.
Hamas has carried out several direct attacks against Israeli troops, a senior Israeli military official said. The incidents therefore occurred behind the agreed line to which the army withdrew in the Gaza Strip on October 10th.
The Hamas denied a breach of the ceasefire and said through a representative that the organization was committed to the agreement.
Reports had previously emerged that the Israeli military had launched an attack in the Gaza Strip. The army leadership initially remained silent, but then explained that Israeli forces had been attacked by Hamas several times outside the buffer zone in the Palestinian territory. The attacks, including with a rocket-propelled grenade and sniper fire, were a blatant violation of the ceasefire. Hamas had not yet responded to these specific allegations.
Attacks from Israel in southern Gaza
Israeli public radio Kan reported that the air force was attacking Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. Other media also reported on air strikes. Finally, the army leadership confirmed this approach.
The Israeli military said on Friday that “several terrorists” had opened fire on soldiers in the Rafah area. Nobody was injured. Later on the same day, the military attacked another group of “terrorists” that approached troops in Khan Yunis. The military continues to be deployed to eliminate threats, it said.
A central point of contention between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas in the implementation of the ceasefire brokered by the USA is the handover of the bodies of hostages. Israel demands the release of the remains of all 28 slain hostages. Hamas released all 20 remaining hostages after more than two years of ordeal and handed over the bodies of twelve others. However, retrieving the dead buried under rubble requires special effort and special equipment, the Palestinian terrorists argue.
In the meantime, voices are becoming louder again in Israel that doubt there is a chance of peace with Hamas. Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for a resumption of the Gaza war. The right-wing religious politician called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Platform
Call for “complete destruction”
The false notions that Hamas will change its stance or even honor an agreement it has signed are, as expected, proving dangerous to our security, Ben-Gvir wrote. “The Nazi terrorist organization must be completely destroyed – and as soon as possible.”
There has been an official ceasefire in the Gaza Strip since October 10th Israel and the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas. However, there have already been several violent incidents. Ben-Gvir had criticized the ceasefire agreement from the start and also voted against it.
