Fabian from Güstrow died in a violent crime. His home church holds a service for the boy. It becomes clear how tense the mood is.
In the parish church of Guestrow At a family service, around 100 people remembered eight-year-old Fabian, who is believed to have fallen victim to a violent crime. The body of the child from Güstrow was found on Tuesday in a pond near the small town in Mecklenburg. His mother had reported him missing four days earlier.
“I have so many questions and yet so few answers,” said Vicar Tim Trabe in his sermon on Sunday. Words that fit the current investigations and should speak to the hearts of many. Because: The investigating authorities have not yet presented a suspect. The only thing that is certain so far is that Fabian died as a result of violence.
Mayor Sascha Zimmermann (FDP) told the German Press Agency that the mood in Güstrow was tense. Everyone hoped that the investigation by the police and public prosecutor’s office would quickly lead to success so that it would become clear what happened and whether there was a danger to the city’s society. “Some say they no longer dare to let their children leave the house alone.”
It is still unclear when Fabian will be buried
In front of the church the sea of candles grows for Fabian. Inside, Vicar Trabe says: “Here we remember that we do not have to walk alone through the darkness of our grief.” And: “We hold firmly to the fact that community supports us when worries become unbearable and that the light is stronger than fear.” According to the mayor, there is currently no date for Fabian’s funeral.
