Switzerland is tightening its migration policy. People who apply for asylum there should no longer be allowed to travel abroad. But there is an exception.
In Switzerland, asylum seekers, temporarily admitted people and people in need of protection will soon only be allowed to travel to their home country or other countries in a few exceptional cases. The government is preparing to change the regulations following a parliamentary decision, as it announced in Bern.
In Germany, this rule also applies to trips home: they are only permitted for the above-mentioned group of people with special permission. Reasons could include emergencies or deaths of relatives. In Switzerland, the travel ban should also apply to trips to third countries, with a few exceptions.
UNHCR criticizes travel ban for asylum seekers in Switzerland
Different restrictions apply to Ukrainians temporarily admitted as a result of the Russian invasion. In the future, you will be allowed to stay in Ukraine for 15 days per six months. The new regulations are due to come into force next year.
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has criticized the planned restrictions for those temporarily admitted as disproportionate. The travel ban does not do justice to the difficult situation of numerous families who have been separated due to flight and persecution and have found refuge in different countries.
