The Interior Ministry of Ukraine has set up a Telegram channel on which Russian relatives can identify soldiers. But the action serves not only to clarify, but also as a deterrent.

Several English-language media outlets reported on a hotline set up by the Ukrainian government to inform Russian families about prisoners of war and the whereabouts of their sons. The channel description says: “This channel was created by representatives of the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine. On it you will find information about captured and killed Russian soldiers in Ukraine since the beginning of the occupation. Educate the Russian people
According to Radio Free Europe, they hope to break through the Russian-controlled state media and show Russian citizens, including friends and family members of the troops on the ground, how serious the situation in Ukraine is. Channel also serves as a deterrent
“But the website and its social media offshoots are primarily intended to deter and demoralize – and to encourage resistance to the war in the country of the aggressor,” the Swiss offshoot of the news portal Watson points out. They are a thorn in President Putin’s side. According to Watson, the Russian media supervisory and censorship authority Roskomnadzor immediately blocked access. However, the Telegram channel now has around 460,000 followers.
But the content it contains is not without it: while the “Ishchi Svoikh” website is limited to prisoner films, the Telegram channel shows the atrocities of war uncensored – above all, fallen soldiers and corpses mutilated beyond recognition. The videos spread unfiltered on social media.
