Sunday trend: Almost half believe there will be a premature collapse of the government

Almost half of Germans believe that the government will collapse prematurely








According to “Sonntagstrend”, Germans are increasingly dissatisfied with the federal government – and doubt whether the Merz cabinet will hold out. The AfD remains the strongest force.

According to the “Sunday trend”, the government coalition made up of the Union and the SPD has once again lost support. In the survey that the polling institute Insa conducts weekly for “Bild am Sonntag”, the coalition parties together only get 39 percent.



The approval rating for the Union of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) fell by one percentage point to 24 percent. The coalition partner SPD gained one percentage point compared to the previous week (15 percent).

The AfD lost one percentage point compared to the previous week, but remained the strongest force with 26 percent. The Left and the Greens each had an approval rating of eleven percent. With four percent each, the BSW and the FDP would currently miss out on entering the Bundestag.


Those surveyed expressed increasing dissatisfaction with the work of the federal government: 66 percent viewed it critically. DThis is another three percent more compared to the last survey on October 10, 2025. 25 percent of those surveyed are still satisfied (minus three points).

49 percent of those surveyed expect that the current federal government will not last the entire legislative period until 2029. However, 32 percent believe that the coalition will last until 2029.

For the current “Sunday trend”, the opinion research institute Insa surveyed 1,205 citizens from October 20th to 24th. According to “Bild am Sonntag”, the maximum error tolerance was plus/minus 2.9 percentage points.
