Numerous sanctions were imposed on Russia as a result of the war of aggression against Ukraine. Among other things, Russian flights are no longer allowed to fly over EU territory. A first flight now shows the unpleasant effect of this sanction.
So far, the Ukraine war is not going as smoothly for Russia and Vladimir Putin as he might have originally imagined. In addition, Russia had to accept severe sanctions for the groundless war of aggression, from partial removal from the Swift system to freezing of funds and assets to bans on trading in certain products.
Ukraine War: Impact of sanctions reflected in flight from Russia to Belarus
Everyone can now follow the effects of another sanction in concrete terms: since last week, the first countries have decided to ban Russian flights overflights, which eventually became an EU-wide ban. This primarily affects flights from Russia to European countries, but also flights within Russia or flights to countries that have not yet imposed sanctions.
A Russian exclave is particularly affected by this, which lies next to the large, contiguous Russian territory in the west of the Russian Federation and already on the European continent. Kaliningrad is separated from the rest of the country by Lithuania, Poland, Belarus and Latvia.

Flight from Kaliningrad to Minsk: more than an hour late
If you want to fly from Kaliningrad to countries that have not yet sanctioned, you now have to put up with sensitive detours: According to the flight data portal Flightradar24, the average flight time from Kaliningrad to Minsk in Belarus is usually less than an hour. However, since the route would have led through Lithuania, it became a huge detour that led through a narrow international corridor between Finland and Estonia and then through Russian territory. According to Flightradar24, the flight had a significant delay at the end of the route and a total flight time of two hours and 24 minutes.
