Tens of thousands are taking to the streets against the war in Ukraine. The forms of protest are varied. And the wife of Kiev Mayor Klitschko is also there.
In many German cities, numerous people took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the Russian attack on Ukraine.
At several rallies and demonstrations, they showed their solidarity with the people in the hard-fought country – in very different ways.

According to the police, up to 30,000 people came together at a rally in Hamburg alone. At the top, 22,000 people took part in the subsequent train through the city center to the Ukrainian Consulate General. Among them were people of different generations, including children and families. Many had Ukraine and EU flags with them. Posters read slogans like “Stop Putin stop war” or “Make peace”. Natalia Klitschko, the wife of Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, asked for support for her country on the speaker’s platform.
Human chain in Munich
According to the police, around 2,000 people in Munich demanded an end to the war with a human chain from the Ukrainian to the Russian consulate. Some demo participants demanded that Russian President Vladimir Putin have to answer before the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Peace music in Stuttgart
Under the title “Music for Peace”, renowned orchestras, choirs, singers and amateur musicians made music together in Stuttgart against the war. In front of the opera house, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Stuttgart State Opera, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra sang, among other things, the “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van Beethoven. Choirs, professional musicians, singers and amateurs were also invited.
Actions in other cities
Around 5,000 participants demonstrated in Düsseldorf under the motto “Together against Russian aggression”. The deputy head of government in North Rhine-Westphalia, Joachim Stamp (FDP), also recalled “the courageous Russians who take to the streets despite severe repression”.
In Osnabrück, numerous people took a stand against the war in Ukraine with prayers for peace and a demonstration. In many other cities, too, a number of people came together at rallies, peace demos and silent marches – in Erfurt, for example, there were hundreds.
In the past few days, there have been demonstrations in many places against the Russian attack on Ukraine. Russia launched its war of aggression against Ukraine on February 24. Since then, far more than a million Ukrainians have fled, there are injured and fatalities.
