In the darkness, the MSF crew spent hours searching for a boat in the Mediterranean. It will be found just before it’s too late.
The civilian sea rescuers from Doctors Without Borders brought people to safety in the central Mediterranean again on Sunday night.
The “Geo Barents” team brought the more than 30 boat migrants on board within the Maltese search and rescue zone in a difficult rescue operation, the private aid organization said on Twitter on Sunday. The crew searched for the distressed boat for around six hours in the dark. When the sea rescuers arrived, the boat with the people had already capsized.
According to the organization, after the rescue on Saturday, in which 80 people were brought onto the ship from a dinghy floating in the sea, there are now a little more than 110 rescued people on board the “Geo Barents”.
