Ukraine War: Ukrainian artist depicts the war in illustrations

Vladimir Putin probably did not think that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine would drag on for so long. His declared goal was to “liberate” Ukraine and he had imagined the scenario accordingly: Ukrainians surrendering defenselessly, perhaps even cheering for their “liberators”.

Ukraine War: Illustrations tell the stories of brave, intrepid Ukrainians

The opposite happened: there are now many moments, scenes, videos and photos that show the irrepressible will of the Ukrainians for the freedom of their country. For example, there is the elderly Ukrainian woman who bravely confronted a soldier on one of the first days of the war, confronted him and told him to at least put sunflower seeds in his pockets. “So that at least flowers will grow when he dies on the soil of Ukraine.”

Artist Nika Nasarenko: “I am proud of our courage and strength”

The Ukrainian artist Nika Nasarenko used this and a few other scenes as a model for illustrations, which she has now published on Instagram for the medium “Suspilne”. She writes: “I’m proud of our heroes. I’m proud of our people. I’m proud of my country. I’m proud of the courage and strength with which we defend our fatherland.”

She seems to have succeeded in conveying this mood: the post has already collected thousands of likes on “Suspilne” and has now also been published on the official Ukraine account on Instagram.
