War in Ukraine: Russia describes arms deliveries as “criminal”

Numerous countries have already supplied arms to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry is now repeating a threat – and speaks of a “catastrophic development of the situation”.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has again warned against Western arms deliveries to Ukraine and the consequences for NATO.

The delivery of weapons or planes and the deployment of mercenaries could not improve the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Monday, according to the state agency TASS. On the contrary, it would provoke a “catastrophic development of the situation not only in Ukraine, but also in the NATO countries,” she emphasized.

Warning of «global collapse»

Zakharova warned of a “global collapse” if Western weapons got into the hands of combatants. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

Germany also supplies arms to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry had already criticized the German government’s decision to send anti-tank weapons and surface-to-air missiles. Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said on ZDF’s “Morgenmagazin” on Monday that the federal government was examining whether to help Ukraine with further arms deliveries.

Moscow has already explained the damage and consequences of its policy to the countries concerned “with facts in hand”, said Zakharova. However, some countries held on to arms deliveries. ‘It’s your choice. This choice is wrong and simply criminal.”
