British ex-soldiers Mike and Alex travel to Ukraine to join the fight against Russia.
“My main job is to take care of Mike. He’s here as a paramedic. I’m here to make sure he gets home in one piece.”
But why do the former soldiers voluntarily go to the war zone? Afghanistan veteran Alex has a straight answer:
“The only thing evil needs to survive is that good men do nothing.”
Jericho Skye, a US Army veteran, is also on his way to Ukraine.
“I’m Jericho Skye from USA, Southern California and I’m here to protect as many people as possible. To offer combat and life-saving support on the frontlines. I try to offer protection to civilians and also to the people who are supposed to stay to fight for their country.”
“I was a military police investigator in the US Army for four years, but the basic job of every US soldier is in the infantry, combat support. In this context, I have experience in saving lives in war. I will hopefully use more than my combat experience, but I will do what is necessary to protect these people.”
The American also wants to do something about the war instead of just watching.
“Many walk the talk, especially in the US. It’s easy to say you want to do something when you’re sitting on the sofa watching it on TV. It’s a completely different thing to offer your support.”
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy had invited foreigners with combat experience to take part in the fighting and announced the founding of an “International Legion”.
