Gerhard Schröder: Criminal charges for crimes against humanity

Things are getting tighter and tighter for former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. He has now been charged with crimes against humanity. He has long been criticized for his connections to Russia.

Criminal charges have been filed against former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD) for crimes against humanity. As the “Badische Latest News” reported on Tuesday, the criminal complaint was received in Hanover last week and was forwarded to the Federal Public Prosecutor in Karlsruhe on Monday. The public prosecutor’s office in Hanover confirmed to the AFP news agency that the ad had been received and that it had been forwarded.

As the article went on to say, the ad is also aimed at other people. The authorities in Karlsruhe did not want to comment on the newspaper. Schröder has been criticized for not distancing himself from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The former Chancellor is Chairman of the Shareholders’ Committee of Nord Stream AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Russian state energy company Rosneft. He is also running for a post on the board of directors of the Russian state-owned energy company Gazprom.

Gerhard Schröder is considered a close friend of Putin

The former Chancellor remains under pressure for his ties to Russia and his continued business ties with Russia, despite the war in Ukraine. So far, he has not commented on the allegations. He is considered a longtime friend of President Vladimir Putin.

On Saturday, his wife Soyeon Schröder-Kim spoke up again on Instagram and defended her husband. She had already posted a statement a few days ago, but deleted it again a short time later.

Soyeon Schröder-Kim wrote in her article on Saturday that she was appalled at the haste with which the SPD in the leadership, but also in many basic organizations, was supporting a campaign against her husband. “You can be sure that whatever my husband can do to help end the war, he will do it, regardless of ultimatums from the SPD or other organizations such as the DFB.”
