Tatiana P., 43, was killed along with her daughter Alise, 9, and son Nikita, 18. They stayed in spite of the Russian invasion because the grandmother of the family was unwell.

Ms P.’s employer reportedly helped her husband return to Kyiv after he found out about her death. “I’m trying to pull myself together, but it’s really hard”, he posted on Facebook. The family’s dogs also died in the shelling, he added.

The 18-year-old son of the family, who started studying at the university this year, should have stayed in the country in order to be available as a fighter in the defense of Ukraine, as Ms P.’s employer explained in an interview with the “Independent” explained.

The family’s home was said to have been bombed the day before the family’s death, forcing everyone into a basement with no heating or food, and they finally decided to flee to Kyiv.

A work colleague, Anastasia A., said the “New York Times” that their joint employer had provided funds for the emergency evacuation of their employees and that Ms. P. had distributed them on site.

“We have all been in touch with her”said A. “Even while hiding in the basement, she was optimistic and joked in our group chat that the company would now have to do a special operation to get her out, like in the movie ‘Saving Private Ryan’ ‘The soldier James Ryan’).”

Mrs P “was a very kind brave woman with a great sense of humor, she always cheered up everyone around her, she really was like a big sister to all of us”as a spokeswoman for P’s employer told the “San Francisco Chronicles” stressed.

35,000 civilians fled through humanitarian corridors

Russia has denied attacking civilians, although airstrikes hit three hospitals in Ukraine on Wednesday, according to the “Independent” summarizes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said efforts were being made to evacuate about 18,000 people from embattled towns in the Kyiv region to the capital. So far, around 35,000 civilians have used humanitarian corridors to flee the fighting.
