Most recently, Ukraine reported attacks in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv: According to the state nuclear regulatory authority, a nuclear research center was fired on here again. According to the information, the system is now without electricity and there is superficial damage to the building.

At the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology there is a research reactor that is operated with weakly enriched uranium. According to the Society for Reactor Safety (GRS), both Ukrainian research reactors – a second one is in Kyiv – were shut down at the end of February.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk announced new escape routes to evacuate civilians from contested areas. Putin criticizes sending “mercenaries from all over the world”

Two weeks after the start of the invasion, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin advocates sending volunteers to support the pro-Russian separatists in Donbass. «If you see that there are people who come on a voluntary basis, especially not for money, and want to help people living in Donbass – well, then you have to meet them halfway and help them to go to the combat zone pull,” Putin said at a meeting of the National Security Council.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 16,000 people from the Middle East alone had already registered to fight for the “liberation movement” of the self-proclaimed People’s Republics of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Shoigu also spoke out in favor of further relocating military units and “of course these new, modern complexes” to Russia’s western borders. Putin ordered a report from the Defense Ministry. “Based on the results of his discussion, we will make a decision accordingly in the near future.”

The Kremlin chief also complained about the sending of “mercenaries from all over the world” to Ukraine: “The Western sponsors of Ukraine, the Ukrainian regime, they do not hide it, they do it openly and disregard all norms of international law.”
