Frankfurt: IS supporter arrested at the airport

There has been an arrest warrant for a long time, now a suspected supporter of the terrorist organization IS has been arrested. The young woman is said to have eagerly collected donations for like-minded people.

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested at Frankfurt Airport on suspicion of membership in the terrorist group Islamic State (IS).

The German, against whom there has been an arrest warrant since November 2021, is said to be a follower of Salafist Islam and, among other things, to have operated a donation network for female members of IS. On Saturday she was presented to the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) and taken into custody, the federal prosecutor said. According to the allegations, the accused traveled to Syria with her husband in 2013 and joined IS by early 2014 at the latest.

After her husband – the nationality of the IS fighter, who was born in Germany, was not disclosed – died in battles on behalf of the terrorist organization in 2015, she married two other IS fighters in a row and lived in Iraq and Syria until the beginning of 2019 various locations under IS rule. “She managed the joint household and was paid for it by IS,” according to the federal prosecutor.

Allegedly collected money for IS members

After her arrest by Kurdish forces in early 2019, she actively collected money for IS members in refugee camps in a refugee camp in northern Syria. She was also the contact person between fundraisers in Germany on the one hand and female IS members to be supported in Syria on the other.

At the end of 2019, she is said to have married a higher-ranking IS member as a second wife and continued to provide financial support to IS members. She was in Turkish custody from 2020 until her return to Germany. The woman was arrested on Friday.
